Arctic Silence

NO WORD FROM NOBILE LOST IN ICY WASTE (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association) Reed. 1.30 p.m. LONDON, Wednesday. General Nobile’s wireless has ceased, and nothing was received throughout the night, after the message detailing the disaster to the airship Italia. It is believed the accumulators are exhausted, and nothing more is likely to be heard from the castaways; but they will be able to receive messages for some time yet. The pack-ice carried them two miles in two daj r s, breaking up here and there, and forming canals.

Unfortunately, the weather has undergone a bad change. A north-west gale is feared, accompanied by snow, which will further try the inade-quately-clothed crew, as well as imperilling the lives of the three men who are trekking to Cape North. An encouraging aspect, however, is that the relief expeditions are daily becoming more numerous.
