Turf Sensation

Rotorua Frame-Up Disclosed

Well-Known Jockeys Disqualified

THREE jockeys disqualified, and one other remaining to to be dealt with, is the resnlt of the prolonged inquiry into certain incidents relating to events at the Rotorua Racing Club’s annual meeting in February. Although something of the sort was expected by those in touch with the racing world, the conviction of such well-known riders as W. Rennie, A. J. Gilmer and J. Mcßae, provides a first-class Turf sensation.

After a lengthy inquiry, the Rotorua Racing Club has at last come to a decision as a result of its investigations into the High-weight races at its annual meeting in February last. As the outcome of its deliberations

the judicial committee of the club was satisfied that at least one of the events was “readied,” and imposed the following penalties upon jockeys therefor: W. RENNIE, disqualified for twelve months. A. J. GILMER, disqualified for 12 months. J. McRAE, disqualified for six months. The inquiry, so far as it concerns C. Carmont, has not been completed on account of the ill-health of this rider. The committee also decided that there was insufficient evidence

against G. Holland and R. E. Thom son to implicate them.

W. Rennie is one of the ablest and best-known horsemen in the province, and for some time past he has acted as first horseman to R. Hannon's stable so far as jumping events are concerned. Twelve months ago Rennie won the Great Northern Hurdles on Wedding March, and was again on that horse at the recent meeting at Ellerslie. On this occasion Rennie won two races on Bourn and another on Kingfield. A. J. Gilmer is one of the lesser lights among the jockeys, but considering the lack of opportunities he has done fairly well.

J. Mcßae piloted 3_,ady Cintra to victory in the Tamaki Steeplechase at Ellerslie on Wednesday of last week, and rode several other horses in their engagements at the Auckland meeting, incidentally meeting with his share of falls, being on Beau Cavalier and Mia Belia when they crashed on the last day.
