IYAS NEW ORCHESTRA
“BEYOND CRITICISM”
The engagement of an orchettra which will be “beyond criticism” for Auckland’s radio station IYA was announced today by Mr. W. J. Eiellingham, musical director for the Broadcasting Company. In a short time, possibly ntit month, according to the director, Auckland will have an orchestra of the same size ar.d constitution as the one recently organised for the Wellington station, and which has been so favourably received. Mr. Bellingham said that the Wellington orchestra, consisting as it did of the leading players in the city, was in point of number and efficiency, superior to any in Australia or New Zealand. Twa of Auckland' leading musicians would be signed up for the IYA engagement. Speaking of the criticism of vocal performers engaged by IYA, Mr. Billingham said: “It is simple to say ‘why don’t you put on better artists.’ Better vocalists are not in Auckland The only thing we can do to improve the combination i 3 to get a new itchestra and that step has been taken."
