ORCHARD PROBLEMS

FIGHTING FRUIT PESTS (Special to THE SUN) NELSON, Tuesday. The director of the Cawthron Institute, Professor T. H. Easterfield, emphasised to Nelson fruitgrowers today the wisdom of the policy of sending senior officers of the institute to other countries in order to secure an intimate knowldege of the work carried out by other investigators. Dr. Easterfield :»aid fruitgrowers must realise that the time had come for increased and more vigorous research by highly-trained investigators upon a large number of orchard problems. He was of opinion that this work should be carried out in the Nelson district by a fruit research institute, which might be well attached to and form an extension of the Cawthron Institute.
