SPARROW-SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP
Press Association. NAPIER, Tuesday. The North Island sparrow shooting championship was decided on the Hawke’s Bay Central Gun Club’s grounds, Hastings, to-day, in the worst possible conditions. A south-west gale and frequent heavy downpours made accurate shooting almost impossible. Competitors with three misses or more at the eighth round decided to drop out. This left R. Buick (Masterton) who retired at the 18th, A. Thompson (Palmerston), retired at the 19th, W. Nichol. retired at the 20th, and C. E. Brown (Palmerston North). Brown reached the 21st round with 19 birds to his credit and won the championship. He is a past New Zealand and North Island champion. Twentyfive competed.
