WESTFIELD STOCK SALE
BEEF VALUES FIRM HEAVY SHEEP YARDING An average yarding of mostly Giood quality cattle at Westfield toc'ay met with a market firm at late rates. A comparatively large percentage of heavy prime cattle was included in the yarding. The offering was drawn from most parts of the province, although Bay of Plenty graziers’ lots were not very much in evidence. The quality of the ox beef generally was good, and few inferior finished cattle came forward. The North supplied the pride of the market in a line of extra choice heavy prime bullocks on account of W. Allison, Mangakahia Valley. The tops made to £lB 2s. Two trucks of heavy prime bullocks on account J. Hanks, Te Aroha, made £l4 17s 6d to £l6 2s 6d. Big framed, well-finished but not exceptionally fat bullocks on account Charles G. Robertson, Waiuku, made to €ls 2s 6d. William Vosper, Cambridge, was responsible for a line of extra prime quality light and medium-framed bullocks, which sold under keen competi • tlon from £l2 7s 6d to £l4 10s. H. Bay ley, Tiroa, had a line of good quality, handy weight bullocks forward which made to £l3 7s 6d. R. C. Morgan, Matamata. averaged £l2 16s with a line of choice prime small - framed voting steers which made to £l3 17s 6d. Exceptionally well done, deep-bodied young P.A. Waikato steers made £l3 7s 6d to £l4 ss. A line of rising two-year small P.A. and Shorthorn steers, extra well done, made from £S to £8 17s 6d. The average quality of the cow and heifer yarding was well below that seen at late sales. Cull dairy sorts were largely in evidence and few exceptionally choice lines came forward. Heavy prime young cattle in this section made up to £lO 10s; medium weight young cows and heifers. £ 7 'Os to £8 15s; lighter, £6 5s to £7 6d; small and inferior finished, from £4 10s. An average yarding of mediocre quality calves came forward. The demand for big calves had an easier tendency. Good quality small and medium weight calves met with keen competition. The heaviest yarding of sheep seen f°r many weeks comprised a large percentage of heavy prime wethers.
