AIDS TO COMFORT AND ECONOMY
INCREASING KITCHEN SPACE
\ When kitchen space is limited, it is an excellent plan to hinge a wooden nap to the window-sill, or to the wall under the sill. When not required, this extra table can hang flat against | the wail and take up no room. A ! little fitment like this will be found invaluable when cutting bread and butter, making pastry and so on. A COMFORTABLE PRAM COVER Take the best parts of old blankets and cut two pieces to the size of a , pram-cover. Dye to the desired shade, dry, press and tack the two together. Blanket-stitch with coarse wool of contrasting shade, and in the centre work Baby’s initial. A cot cover may be fashioned in the same way. FIRE LIGHTERS A simple, cheap way of making firel ghters is the following: Take a sheet of newspaper, fold in half, roll up, j twist the roll tightly in the middle or | tie it with string. Dip these roils jin paraffin, dry out of doors, and stack on a shelf in the coal cellar. A REMEDY AGAINST INFLUENZA Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to ! every pail of hot water you use for household purposes. For cleaning rooms and staircases this solution is excellent, destroying germs and thus preventing infection. Brooms and brushes dipped in eucalyptus oil and water should be used for the carpets, and a few drops of the oil might be sprinkled on all dusters used in the j sick room.
