ANOTHER RONA
NEW FOURTEEN-FOOTER ADDITION TO JELLICOE CLASS MR. C. G. MACINDOE’S ENTERPRISE Interest in next seasons’ yachting will be heightened by the appearance of a brand-new boat in the Sanders Cup class. Mr. C. G. Macindoe, owner of the former champion, Rona, has placed an order for a new 14-footer with Mr. Col. Wild, the well-known Stanley Bay builder, and the new craft is to be handed over by Labour Day, the last Monday in October.
Interest in the smart 14-footers is always keen, and the presence of a new boat, to race on even terms with Avalon and the others of her company, will serve to make it keener than ever.
Mr. Macindoe’s enterprise follow s his association with Rona, which is now in her seventh year, showing the effects of hard racing. In a hard breeze Rona is still unexcelled in her class, but light weather finds her heavier and more sluggish than of old. Consequently Mr. Macindoe is wise in deciding that a more modern craft is required for future racing in the class. LAPTHORNE SAILS
An order placed with the well-known firm of Ratsey and Lapthorne, of Gosport, England, for a complete suit of sails for the new boat, indicates that her equipment will be the best available.
The arrangements for her construction have been left in the hands of Mr. A. E. Matthews, one; of the bestknown yachtsmen on the harbour, vho will handle her in future races, and whose knowledge of the requirements has no doubt played a part in leading Mr. Macindoe to embark on this enterprise.
The new boat will comply with the Rona plans and specifications, so as to be eligible for entry in the Sanders Cup tests, and Rona will be emrdo—as a try-out boat, to test the qualities of the new boat.
