WHERE WILL THEY LAND? INVITATIONS SENT Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. On behalf of the Canterbury Progress League and the Christchurch Aero Club, the following cable has been sent to Capt. Kingsford Smith: “Congratulations on your splendid achievement. We are gratified to learn of your intention to fly the Tasman and Canterbury cordially invites you to make Christchurch, where special facilities exist, your landing place.” Mr. S. F. Napper, of Christchurch, who is agent for Captain Kingsford Smith in New Zealand, stated yesterday that he was practically certain that the aviators would make Christchurch their landing place at this end. He had sent a cablegram to Captain Smith at Sydney and was awaiting a reply. DUNEDIN WANTS THEM DUNEDIN, To-day. The Mayor of Dunedin, Mr. W. B. Taverner, has cabled Captain Kingsford Smith: —- “On behalf of the Dunedin citizens I offer you sinceer congratulations on your successful flight and extend to you and your companions a hearty invitation to visit this city. The Otago Aero Club is arranging for a landing ground, and full particulars will await you on your arrival in I Christchurch.” The Aero Club has now obtained a suitable site for an airdrome at l Green Island, comprising an area of 152 acres. WANAWATU TOO
PALMERSTON N., To-day. The general committee of the Manawatu A. and P. Asosciation decided this morning to communicate with the Minister of Defence, suggesting that, if the Southern Cross comes to New Zealand, its landing be made on the showgrounds or other suitable place in the vicinity of Palmerston North.
