High-Class Trotters Will Visit Epsom

SOME FINE IMPROVEMENTS

RFCORDS OF STEWARDS’ HANDICAP ENTRANTS

Although the Stewards’ Handicap fir square-gaiters at the Auckland linter carnival has a limit of 4.40, has drawn some of the highest 'lass trotters in the Dominion and ‘remises to furnish one of the finest contests of the meeting.

the season, now almost at an nd opened last August, many of the trotting fraternity have made coniderable improvement and in some in-

tances excellent times have been recorded The most noticeable in this direction is of course the Palmerston \orth mare Native Star, who won her first race for the 1927-28 season at Wellington in September, tramping

446 4-5 off a 4.47 mark. As anticipated, however, the Native King mare made wonderful strides and finished up at Easter by recording a win at Addington in 4.30 2-5. Striking The Top Note Others to show up prominently were Young Blake, who registered a win in 4.31 and Sister Beatrice who improved on her previous best by going 4.33. Waikaha after winning the Rowe Cup in 4.36 2-5, registered 4.31 2-5 for third berth at the Otahuhu fixture. Peter Swift, who has won several two mile events this season, also went fast at the Otahuhu meeting finishing third in the. Cup in 4.30 3-5. Betty Moko who registered a dual victory last June when the tracks were holding, went 4.36 3-5 for second money in the Rowe Cup. and other recent winners in Kempton and Swiftbine were favoured with similar track conditions. The former registered 4.49 from a 4.43 mark and the latter off 443 was only required to tramp 4.52. Other Improvers Tamerlane won at Waikato over two miles in 4.43 1-5, but went much faster when he romped home in the 10 furlong heat the same day, being clocked to go 2.50 2-5. Tiger Salve, Great Change and Petroleuse have all won races and in securing place money have gone faster than their previous records show.

Real the Great, Rose Bingen, Tradesman, and The Tartar have not hroken the ice this season, but three of them at least have improved their times for little money. The following list shows the times
