Shadowland always well placed, but failed to come on :n the straight. Epigram moved into fourth place at the Far Beni, but failed to stay on. Bing Boy. La S :n----nette and Event broke at the start. The winner was driven by J. J. KenSonoma Child's Fins Form Mr. G. Cudby s brown colt. Sore ma Child, won the New Zealand Sapkng Stakes in great style from Grand Light. The winner was in fourth place when the field settled down, where F. G. Holmes allowed him to bowl along tc T nearing the home bend- Here Sonoma Child ran to the front and stayed there .to win easily. Hinkler took Grand Light Frances De Oro, Harvest Child, Wrackler and TVrackeen to the halfmile disc in ITT. Rounding the far ; bend Grand Light drew level with Hinkler, but the latter was beaten at , the h ead of the stretch and Frances De Oro was beaten two furlongs from home. Wrackler and Wrackeen made big efforts in the straight, but neither could overhaul Sonoma Child and Grand Light. The winner is by Sonoma Harvester from G wench ill and brother to Harvest Child. E; was driven by F. G. Holmes. Matagouri Makes Good Matagouri took charge six furlongs from home and stayed there to win the Acton Handicap in rare style. He "is a tough sort of customer with plenty of speed, and he stays on particularly welL He is trained by J. Davidson, who drove him. Slump and Heroic were first out of the barrier, with Milo Minto handy. Mercury ran through into fifth place going along the back, but though pulling hard did not improve his position. Heroic was : ; beaten a long way from home, but , Slump hung on gamely. Once into the straight Huon Denver came through to beat Slump for second money. Unlucky Arran Chief : In a tight finish Locanda's General won the Winter Handicap by a head • j from Arran Chief, who beat Tommy : Direct by a similar margin. Bold Bill was in front at the end of a furlong, : but dropped back to fourth before a mile was covered. Genuine went through rounding the bend and led . into the straight. He was in front at ■ the distance, but failed to withstand the challenges of Locanda's General, i Arran Chief and Tommy Direct. Surprises in Farewell Royal Serene won the Farewell : Handicap, going away from Bankhead. Mate o’ Mine was second a furlong l j from home, but broke badly at the ' distance post.
