Obituary

MRS. JOHN BIJCHANAN

The death of Mrs. John Buchanan occurred at Te Awamutu on Saturday morning. Mrs. Buchanan wa3 a resident of Pirongea, and was very highly esteemed. The funeral took place at Pirongia yesterday afternoon.

MR. A. E. WRIGHT

The death has occurred at Suva of Mr. A. E. Wright, a well-known banana planter and, for the past two years, a Governmn: banana inspector. Mr. Wright, who was 49 years of age, came to the colony in 1906 from Warrington, England, and for some years managed the estates of the late Ratu Lala, and later the Vuni Macawa Estate at Savu Savu. From there he went to manage Mango Island. His own property was at Taivou. He leaves a wife and two children.

MR. D. J. SOLOMON

One of the best-known public men in Fiji, Mr. D. J. Solomon, of l«evuka., died recently. He was the second son of the late Air. P. S. Solomon, Q.C., who was editor of the “Fiji Times’’ and, for a time, Attorney-General. Mr. Solomon was- 1 a member of the Levuka Council for over 30 years and served two terms as Mayor of the town. He had been a member of the School Board and was for four years secretary of the Chamber of Commerce. He leaves a widow and family of 10. Of these five are at school in Auckland.

MR. A. J. TAPPER

In the death of Air. A. J. Tapper yesterday the Auckland Stock Exchange lost one of its oldest and most highly-esteemed members. Air. Tapper was born in London 66 years ago. He emigrated to Australia as a young man and about 40 years ago crossed the Tasman to New Zealand. He joined the Auckland Stock Exchange about 20 years age. He was a member of the Devonport Borough Council for several years. A member of the Alasonio fraternity, he was a Past Master o? the Prince of Wales Lodge, and a member of the Grand Lodge of England. A vocalist of no mean ability, for many years his services were always 1 at the disposal of charitable organisations. Reference to the death of Air. Tapper was made by the chairman, Mr. G. C. Creagh, at the early call on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning. Air. Tapper, said the chairman, had been one of the oldest member.-* ; of the Auckland ’Change and at ono i time had served on the committee. He had been held in the highest esteem ; by all with whom he came in contact. ; A motion of condolence with Alrm. Tapper and family of two daughters ! was carried. , 1
