SOCIAL EVENING The Athenian Club held ; one of its enjoyable social functions in the Operatic Society’s .Hall on Saturday evening, when- a large number of members and their friends were present. An excellent programme was submitted by Madame Edith Baird. Mr-. T. E. Richards. Miss Molly Woolcott. Miss Pelita Groves, Miss Molly Atkinson, Miss Xina Fuller. The Asquiths. Miss Burke, and Mr. W. Russell Wood. Mr. Fred Stevens and Mr. Cliff Pettit were the hosts for the evening. The hall was attractively arranged as a snow-covered scene, and an amusing j snowball fight took place during the j evening. The Athenian Orchestra, conducted | by Miss Bush., provided excellent dance ! music.

WISE—RADFORD On Thursday morning a very pretty wedding was celebrated by Archdeacon a.. 31. Cowie at St. Peter's . Cathedral, Hamilton. The bride was Puna, second daughter of Mr. and 3lrs. HI. Radford, of Xe j Rapa, and the bridegroom Cecil- the * only son of Mr, and 31rs. i . Wise, of Tc Rapa. An exquisite frock of Ron-' georgette, with side panels edged with diamond-shaped taffeta frills, was worn by the bride. Her hand-em-broidered veil of tulle was caught over the ears with posies of orange blossoms ar.d formed a train. White and pale pink blossoms composed the bouquet. The bride’s sister, 3Larjery. was cer only attendant, and wore a frock o: cyclamen georgette with deep hem of cream silk lace. Her pink crinoline hat with its pink and mauve posies toned in with her beautiful bouquet of pink and mauve Sowers. 7ns bride had long been an --r.il siastic choir member, and the wedding was fully choral. 3'r. h. B. Sims was at the organ. 31 r. Arthur Head attended the bridegroom as best man. After a reception was held at the I home of the bride’s parents. A very pretty wedding of local interest took place in Holy Trimly Church, Waiuku, recently, when Beryl, the elder daughter of 3ir. and Mrs. W. C. Clark, Pukeoware, was married to Geoffrey Thomas, youngest son of Mr. and 3lrs. I. blarks, Kariotahi. The Rev. J. C. Fuss-eli officiated. Tice bride looked charming as she entered the church on the arm of her father, wearing white pearl crepe a--chine. with a three-tiered skirt, knifepleated, over taffeta. Her prettily embroidered veil was arranged with a j coronet and orange blossoms, and sh* carried a beautiful shower bouquet The bridesmaid. Miss Dorothy Clark, sister of the bride, wore a dainty mauve and silver taffeta frock, hand - embroidered, with silver and tulle headdress, and carried a matching bouquet The two little Sower girls. Miss Norma Deed, niece of the bridegroom and bliss Mavis Williams, cousin of the bride, wore pale green embroidered taffeta frocks and carried gold baskets of flowers. The best mam was Mr. F. Nlarks. brother of the bridegroom. Mrs. A. James played the "Wedding March.” After the ceremony a reception was held in Pukeoware Hall, when about SO guests, including the bride's grandparents, were present. The mother of the bride wore a navy repp costume, with navy felt hat with black osprey, and carried a s carle: posy. The mother of the bridegroom wore a black satin coat, with felt hat, and scarlet and black osprey. The bride travelled in a navy repp, ensemble suit, relieved with red, anc red hat to match.

SUNDAY SCHOOL FUNCTION A very happy afternoon was held in St. John's Sunday School Had. Great South Read. Papa toe toe, on Saturday, when the annual treat for the members of the primary Sunday School classes took place. There was a large attendance of Are children and. them parents, and a pleasan: couple of hours was spent in listening to the young folks' songs and recitations. FAREWELL PARTY’
There was a large attendance of members of the Mangere East Croquet and Bowling Clubs, at a farewell evening held in the Mangere East Pufolic Hal! on Friday in honour of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Sigley, both popular and energetic members of the clubs, who are leaving for a trip to Sydney, 'before settling in Auckland. A very pleasant evening was spent in playing progressive 500. The prizes were won by Mrs. Sigley and Mr. Hen Keys, the consolation prize was awarded to 31 r. S. W. House. . . Mrs. Knight, president of the croquet club, handed 31 rs. Sigley a handsome brass tray from her fellow members of the club. Mrs. Sigley also received a silver cup, which she had won during the season’s competitions. 3lr. Clark, president of the bowling club, presented 3fr. Sigley with a handsome bowling bag, wishing both he and Mrs. Sigley the best of luck-

BROWNIES’ RALLY
Brownies ana Guides from Xortii Shore held a rally in St- Michael’s Hall on Saturday evening. The Brownies, 60 of them, played games and listened to musical items, and then 100 guides assembled. The evening opened vrith an obstacle race arranged bv the Devonport Company: musical items were given by the Takapuna Company, and country dances by the Bevonport and ftorth Shore Companies. Among those present were Mrs. o. Williamson. Mayoress of Takapuna. and Mrs. Pereival, who is District Commissioner. At the monthly meeting of the le Aiatu Women’s Institute. Miss Paton read a taper on The Nervous System of Plant Life.” This was followed by a memory test. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs. Love and Miss Shepherd, and a roll call on how to cure "The Blues” completed the entertainment. The meeting closed with the singing, of the National Anthem. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Quilter for the work of installing a hot-point for boiling water, free of expense.

BOARD MEETING 1 The monthly meeting of the board o: directors was held on Friday, Mrs. G. H. Wilson being in the chair. After a short devotional period of study and prayer, Miss Elizabeth Brownell, PhD . was welcomed to the association. - where she will be in enarge of the senior club work. Miss Brownell, in responding, spoke of the girls in ali - 1 the countries that she had visited and - expressed her joy at being able to - settle now in Auckland and continue - her work with girls. - The resignation of the presiden-c. Mrs A Garrard, was received with regret, and - Mrs. G. U. Wilson was appointed to i i the office i f the annual meeting. Letters of congratulation were to be sent to Sir George and Lady Fowlds. also to Miss McLeanJ Mrs. Herman Cater was appointed ’ a representative of the Auckland I l .W.C A. in Rotorua. She will do voluntary work as travellers’ aid and 3 care for overseas girls resident in f Rotorua. - i A nominations committee, with Mrs. ’, j T. Clark as chairman, was appointed, and the date of the annual meeting fixed for August 1-5. The next membership meeting will be held in the _ afternoon of June 20, and It was decided to hold the World Fellowship 1 Fair in July.
