MAUI POMARE ARRIVES.—The A’ew Zealand Government’s new motor-ship. Maui Ponare, arrived at Auckland on | Saturday evening last from England, via ! Apia and Wellington. The Maui Pom are was built at Dublin and afterwards went to Southampton, i where she loaded 800 tons of cargo, in- ‘ eluding four lighters in sections, for dis--1 charge at Apia. In the Atlantic four days’ stormy weather was encountered, and her behaviour during the boisterous conditions demonstrated her seaworthiness. Except for this the weather during the voyage was generally fair. Being ■ a new vessel, the engines were not opened ; out to their full capacity, but the speed j from Southampton to Wellington aver- - aged 10 knots. After discharge at Apia, the Maui Po- ! mare loaded 700 cases of fruit and then i went to Xiue Island, where another 2,709 I cases were taken on board. The fruit was unloaded at Wellington. At Aiue Island 17 natives were embraked, and | they now form the crew, having been i signed on at Wellington in place of the \ European seamen who brought the vessel to A"ew Zealand and who have been paid off.
