£3,849 DAMAGES

CYCLISTS COMPENSATED FOR LOST LEGS

COSTLY ACCELERATION

Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. Damages totalling £. 1,849 were awarded to Percy John Aldridge and Norman Parata by Mr. Justice Sim in a judgment delivered to-day. Aldridge and Parata claimed damages against Albert Goodman, a horse trainer, of Trentham. for injuries they received when a motor-cycle they were riding collided with a motor-car driven by Goodman. Each p&lintiff lost a leg. His Honour found that both before and after the collision plaintiffs were on the proper side of the road and were riding at a reasonable speed. On consideration of all the evidence the conclusion he arrived at was that the defendant was not satisfied t- follow in the wake of another car. and made up his mind to pass it. Accordingly he accelerated the speed of his car and dashed across to the other side of the road without having first taken the trouble to see whether or not there were any other vehicles or pedestrians on that side of the road. Before he knew where he was, his motor had collided with Aldridge’s cycle and tho damage was done.
