THOMAS BRYAN BADLY DAMAGED
Crew Spends Night on Cliffs
RETURNING from a trawling trip to the Bay of Plenty the .team trawler Thomas Bryan was wrecked at Rauporoa, near Port Charles on the Coromandel Peninsula, last evening. The vessel is a total wreck, but the crew is safe.
The Thomas Bryan. was due to arrive at Auckland from the Bay of Plenty at six o’clock this morning, and although only brief details are available at Auckland, it is surmised that she went ashore some time between 10 and. 12 o’clock last evening. The crew got safely ashore and climbing the cliffs in the darkness walked to Port Charles, where they spent the night.
Messrs. Sanford, Ltd., dispatched one of their trawlers to Port Charles at noon to-day and will bring the crew back to Auckland. An examination of the wrecked vessel will also be made.
The Thomas Bryan, a steam trawler of 216 tons, is the latest addition to th 0 trawling fleet of Messrs. Sanford, Ltd., fish merchants, of Auckland. She was built in 1917 for Brand and Curzon, Ltd., by Hall, Russell and Company, Ltd., of Aberdeen, and was purchased by Messrs. Sanford, Ltd., last year. She is classed A 1 at Lloyd’s.
