WORK FOR CHARITY
PLAN FOR WINTER RELIEF COMMERCIAL TRAVELLERS’ EFFORTS During the past 12 years the Auckland Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association has raised £90,000 for charity. A plan for the relief of distress during the winter has been mapped out. In their further efforts, the “C.T.’s” will be assisted by the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association and the Auckland City Mission. The work will be undenominational, and the money raised will be distributed among the bodies and institutions which are directly in touch with the distressed. Th€» relief intentions of the association were outlined at the annual dinner on Saturday evening, when there was a large attendance, including the Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health; Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager of th'i New Zealand railways; Mr. E. Casey, divisional superintendent of North Island railways; Mr. W. J. Holdsiworth, chairman of the Auckland t ower Board; Mr. H. T. Merritt, president of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce; and Mr. M. IT. Wynyard, deputy-chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board.
Toasts honoured during the evening were “The King,’’ “The New Zealand Government,” “Public Bodies,’’ “The Chamber of Commerce,” “Transport,” “The United Commercial Travellers’ and Warehousemen’s Association,” The President,” and “The Press.” Items were given by Mr. Rex Yates, Mr. R. Wilson, Mr. A. E. Allen, and Mr. J. Williams.
