PRINCESS AND TIVOLI
“HEART OF A FOLLIES GIRL” Billie Dove is the star in “The Heart of a Follies Girl,” which is now being shown at the Princess and Tivoli Theatres. She plays the role of Teddy O’Day, a little dancer in the Follies show.
Larry Kent plays the role of Derek Calhoun, who was at the dock to get an expensive foreign automobile imported by his employer, Wintlirop, when Teddy O’Day sees him. Thinking the car his, she manages to attract his attention, and he carries on the deception. They promptly fall in love with each other. Lowell Sherman, Mildred Harris, and Clarissa Sehvynne head the supporting cast, and nearly 50 of Hollywood’s most shapely young dancing girls appear in the Follies scene. Gorgeous and strikingly original, costumes add beauty to the production. Behind all the beauty and glamour, however, is a very human and realistic story of a Follies girl who turned from golddigging to love unwisely, but well. The second attraction on the programme is “The Canyon of Adventure,” starring Ken Maynard. “The Canyon °f Adventure” tells of the early days of California, when the Spanish dons and grandees ruled with an iron hand. It tells of their huge land grants, given them by the King of Spain, and the efforts of the hated gringo land grabbers to secure this land just before its entry into the union. Maynard has a typical role in that of a whimsical and fast-moving land agent, who is endeavouring to save these lands for their owners by registering them with the Government land office before the final day set. It is by far the best thing he has done to date, and shows “ entirely new side of Ken’sabilitv. ' The Canyon of Adventure” will prove that he is an actor of ability, as well as one of the most daring stunt riders
