MAORI KNOCKED DOWN
AMERICAN HOSTILITY ASSAULT NEAR POST OFFICE John Edward Kelly, and American, aged 28, knocked a Maori down outside the Post Office last evening. Kelly pleaded not guilty at the Police Court to-day to a charge of assaulting George Poa. The complainant said that he spoke to accused outside the Post Office, and without warning he was “smacked on the nose.” Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that Kelly had been giving demonstrations of weight-lifting at Waihi.
