U.F.A. FIGHTS WITH AMERICAN INTERESTS

In view of the statement of Mr. Arthur Davis, general manager for Cinema Art Films in New Zealand, prior to his departure by the Aorangi en route to Germany, that Continental capital may be introduced into the Dominion for the erection of cinema theatres for U.F.A., the following clipping from the “Film Weekly” is not without interest—

Following the disclosures of world negotiations for distribution made in an exclusive interview with “The Cinema,” by Kurt Hubert, of U.F.A., who will be remembered from his relcent visit to Australia and New Zea

land, is now rumoured that U.F.A. is planning, in conjunction with sympathetic American capitalists, the erection of a chain of 60 community theatres in Bohemian and art centres throughout the Continent. These theatres would book only films released through the German company. Although these theatres would be small, probably not seating more than 500 each, they would, it is said, give the U.F.A. company a show window in the States, and in this way command the attention of the chain interests. Cinema Art Films announce the early arrival in Australia of the U.F.A. attraction, “Spies,” which is in the same category as "Metropolis.” «
