Jack de Rose, an English comedian, plays the “heavy” in Rudall Hayward’s “The Bush Cinderella,” now in production in Auckland.
Walter Johnson, well-known American producer, arrived back in Australia last week. He is to control stage presentation on the Union Theatres’ vaudeville circuit.
Cecil Scott, who has had some experience with 3. C. Williamson’s on the legitimate stage, is playing opposite “Miss New Zealand” (Dale Austen) in “The Bush Cinderella.”
Samuel Goldwyn has offered a prize of £SOO for the best suggestion of an idea for a picture. Preference is to be given to stories suitable for Ronald Colman or Vilma Bahky.
Mr. Lee Hill, of Commonwealth Film Laboratories, Sydney, has joined Mr. Rudall Hayward’s staff in the capacity of general assistant and camera man.
Rudall Hayward, in filming “The Bush Cinderella,” is making his seventh New Zealand film production. He is aptly termed New Zealand’s pioneer director.
Sam Wood, who directed “Rookies,” “The Fair Co-ed” and “The Latest from Paris” for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer all cl several of Gloria Swanson’s biggest successes, has signed a new long term contract with M.-G.-M.
Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell are parted for a few months. Miss Gayuor is acting in “The Four Devils” and Farrell in “The Red Dancer of Moscow.” The youthful Fox stars will be lovers again in “Blossom Time.”
The Australian Ena Gregory, now known as Marion Douglas, has landed a good role hi M-G-M’s production of an Australian story entitled “Bushranger,” starring Tim McCoy, Dale Austen, “Miss New Zealand,” is in the same cast.
