“MISS NEW ZEALAND” AND HER FROCKS

THE BUSH CINDERELLA’

The frocks worn by Dale Austen in “The Bush Cinderella,” now being filmed in Auckland, will give a hint of the coming spring. They are the modes of the moment as from the early birds of Hollywood. In striking contrast are the period frocks for the prologue of the date of 1900. So far they seem from now, they might have been worn by an “English Rose” of 50 years ago. The small tight waist, the puffed and frilled elbow sleeve, the tiny bows and knot of chiffon at the chin, all awaken some lavender-touched memory of grandmamma instead of mother. “But did mother really wear it?” say the daughters of to-day in their knee-length freedom —waist or no waist, according to the choice of “picture frock,” indoors, or the straight effects correct at all times. Dale Austen appears (as one of these daugh ters) in some delightful models of either kind.
