KING’S FILLY BEATEN VICTORY FOR LORD DERBY (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) LONDON, Friday. The Epsom meeting was concluded to-day, when the la,dies* classic resulted as follows: OAKS STAKES Of £IOO each, with £2,000 added; for three-year-old fillies; weight, 9.0; 15 miles. (Closed with 305 entries.) TOBOGGAN (Lord Derby), b f, by Hurry On —Glacier, T. Weston .... 1 SCUTTLE (H.M. the King), br f, by Captain Cuttle—Stained Glass, W. Jarvis 2 FLEGERE (S. Tattersall), ch f, by Grand Parade—Corrie .. 3 Thirteen started. Won by four lengths, with six lengths between second and third. Strong hopes were entertained that the King would to-day, on the Epsom Downs, win the Oaks classic race for three-year-old fillies. His filly Scuttle was a hot favourite, but could only finish second, being beaten by four lengths by Lord Derby’s Toboggan. Mr. Somerville Tattersall’s Flegere was third.
Lord Derby by the victory of Toboggan (who was beaten in the One Thousand Guineas by Scuttle) obtained some compensation for the failure of his colt Fairway in the Derby.
