HAMILTON NEWS

“They have done a lot of good work, but their organisation is most unbusinesslike,” said Mr. G. Finn, a delegate at a meeting of the Waikato SubProvincial branch of the Farmers’ Union to-day, in criticising the administration of the New Zealand Pig Marketing Association. Mr. Finn considered the association should be complimented on the way it had kept the prices up for porkers during the season. It had proved a real help to the farmers, but he took strong exception to their methods of remitting cheques and to the variations existing in cartage charges. It was time they were told to reorganise their methods, lie added.

Mr. W. Lee-Martin, M.P., the president, stated that he was not sufficiently conversant with the operations of the association to express an opinion, but he suggested that the secretary should make further inquiries. No resolution was passed.

Duncan Fraser, of Kaiau, Hauraki Plains, won the North Island championship for clay-bird shooting at the meeting at Ruakura to-day.

There was a very representative gathering of shooters from all parts of the Dominion, including H. Quarterman, the present New Zealand champion, and E. Goome, the North Island champion. There were 22 starters for the championship, which -was shot off in very tricky wind conditions. Twentyone shots were allowed off 18 yards. When the shoot was completed, Fraser, Clinch, and Burgess were left in, with only one miss each. The former two had a stiff contest until the eleventh round, when Fraser was left with all first barrels in the shoot-off. Fraser and Clinch and Burgess agreed to divide the £35 4s prize money and shoot off for the diamond medal, which resulted as follows; Fraser, 11; Clinch, 10; and Burgess, 4. R. Clinch is only 19 years of ag«, and his further performances will be watched interest. ____ .
