“CASH-ON-DELIVERY”

RETAILERS SUFFER FROM P.O. COMPETITION PETITION FOR ABOLITION Press Associatioyi. PAHIATUA, To-day. The allegedly vicious and very unfair system by which post offices are being used as retailers, to the detriment of local business people, from whom they derive their greatest revenue, was debated by the Chamber of Commerce. It is understood that during next session a petition will be presented to Parliament asking for the abolition of what is known as the “cash on delivery” system between England and New Zealand. It is considered that the Chamber of Commerce should support the petition. It relates mostly to orders for drapery sent to England. The sum involved last year with the post office was nearly £IOO,OOO.
