Berlin Youths Stone the Italian Embassy
WINDOWS SMASHED DEMONSTRATIONS ELSEWHERE (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association) Reed. 9.5 a.m. BERLIN, Thursday. A party of youths stoned the Italian Embassy, smashing several windows, including a study where the Ambassador was seated. The Communist newspaper “Rotefahne” says the attack was a protest against the sentences passed on Italian Communists. Further anti-Italian demonstrations occurred at Skoplje and Strumitza, in Southern Yugoslavia. Seven thousand people marched through the streets of the former city singing patriotic songs and shouting hostile phrases against Italy. Some of the demonstrators tried to storm the Italian Consulate, but a strong force of police and gendarmes prevented this. Several arrests were made and calm was eventually restored.
