GREAT NORTHERN DERBY
SECOND FORFEITS DECLARED CLASSY YOUNGSTERS ENGAGED After the declaration of second forfeits for the Great Northern Derby, which will this year come up for decision at the Auckland Trotting Club’s spring fixture in October, a strong field numerically as well as in point of quality is presented. Tho list, as appended, shows that practically all the two-year-olds engaged in the Sapling Stakes at Ashburton to-morrow stand their ground at the present for the big Auckland
classic, while it is also pleasing to note that there is a good local representation. The result of the juvenile contest to-morrow will throw some light on the prospects of Derby candidates, while the progress of Auckland’s contingent will be watched with interest in the interval.
