TRIBUTE TO MAGISTRATE Tributes to Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., who made his last appearance at the Dargaville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday were paid by counsel. Mr. D. L. Ross, representing the hotel licensees in the district, thanked Mr. Levien. as chairman of the Licensing 3ench, for the courtesies extended during his term. Mr. G. N. Hayes, on behalf of the Dargaville Bar said that they regretted Mr. Levien’s approaching departure, and hoy>ed that they would be as fortunate with his successor. Mr. M. C. Astley endorsed those remarks, adding that he was sure that Mr. Levien’s association with the Auckland bench would not be Auckland’s loss. Mr. Levien said that his associations with Dargaville had been of the happiest. In connection with court work, he said the Dargaville Court had been a hard one. Many contentious cases had come before him, some of which were not easy of determination. However, a happy atmosphere had always existed between counsel and bench.
