RADIO SHIELD AGAIN WON BY AUCKLANDER

SIX-MONTHLY TESTS
The second award by the New Zealand Association of Amateur Transmitters of a shield for longdistance transmission on low power w ,s made to Mr. D. Cooper, of Auckland, at a dinner last evening. Over 50 members of the association were present.
Mr. Cooper succeeded in comintinication with another amateur In Timaru, . he total voltage on the plate of the transmitting valve being only 45 volts. Signals from Mr. Cooper’s station. IFU. were heard clearly and at good strength all over the North Island. This performance is remarkable when the power of the transmitter is comoared with that of a receiving set. Station IFU uses only a fraction of the power necessary to operate an ordinary three-valve receiving set. The Radio Shield was won by another Aucklander last year, Mr. R. V. Roberts, of Station IAE. There will he another test in six months’ tlme. At the dinner last evening the president of the association, Mr. W. J. Seaton, outlined the progress of New Zealand amateurs in recent times and especially during the last six months. Some outstanding feats were referred to by the secretary, Mr. H. B. Arthur. *ho spoke of the great success of oca! enthusiasts in establishing longdistance communication with low power. Musical items were given by Roberts Brothers’ trio, Mr. E. Whiteley, Mr. W. j, Sexton. Mr. Mickelborough and Mr. Gordon.
