WORK FOR BLIND
CONGRATULATIONS FOR SIR G. FOWLDS “MAKING FOES FRIENDS” “I think it is your wish that we officially congratulate our fellow trustee. Sir George Fowlds, on the wellearned honour that has been granted him,” said Mr. A. J. Hutchinson, the chairman, at a meeting of the trustees of the Jubilee Institute for the Blind yesterday. “I am sure you will all agree with me that this board was very fortunate in having him as chairman for many years, and that the blind people of New Zealand owe him a deep debt of gratitude for the work he has done, and inspired others to do on their behalf. A quotation from Richelieu, ‘Great men gain double when they make foes, friends,’ makes anyone realise how well he has done that. "Sir George, we heartily congratulate you, and in doing so, can say with truth and sincerity, yours is a wellearned honour.” The motion was carried with acclamation and Sir George, who was present, thanked the chairman and members for their remarks.
