BOXERS MATCHED

HAY TO FIGHT CASEY TWO PROFESSIONAL CONTESTS N.B.A. ARRANGES FINE ATTRACTION The Northern Boxing Association is showing real enterprise by endeavouring to arrange two professional contests to be staged in the Auckland Town Hall on Friday, June 22. The programme is very ambitious, nothing like it having been staged in Auckland before. The principal bout will be between Harry Casey, holder of the middle-weight championship of New Zealand, and Artie Hay, welterweight champion of the Dominion. The bout will be of 15 rounds for a purse of £IOO and expenses. If it can be arranged, the middle-weight title will be at stake. The second professional bout will be between Clarrie Pocock, of Christchurch. and Jim Broadfoot. of Auckland, over a distance of 10 rounds for

a purse of £75 and expenses. Pocock gave Casey a hard fight over 10 rounds at Oamaru last month, and although he did not receive the decision, he made a great showing. He has had only one other professional fight, which was also at Oamaru. On that occasion he defeated Dick Eoveridge on points in a 10-round contest. He is stated to be a very promising boy with a solid punch, and It is anticipated that he will give Broadfoot a hard fight. In addition to the two professional fights, two good amateur contests will also be staged. FOOTBRAWL? A firm stand is being taken this season by those in control of Rugby football on the Hauraki Plains when dealing with players and spectators who misbehave. Obscene language by players on the field has been stamped out by the punishments meted out in the early part of the season, but more difficulty is being experienced with spectators. Last week two spectators were prohibited from attending any matches this season under the control of the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union and two players were suspended for misbehaviour while watching a match. All officials have been requested to report to the union any cases of misbehaviour by spectators and there is no doubt that offenders will regret their actions or words if they are reported.
