OUT FOR SEASON
VARSITY MAN’S ILL-LUCK C. E. W. MACINTOSH BADLY HURT There will be general regret among footballers and football followers at the news that C. E. W. Macintosh, whose pace has earned for him the title of “the Flying Scotsman,” was so badly hurt in the match between University and North Shore last Saturday that ho may be unable to turn out again this season. He injured a cartilage of the leg, an injury not at first thought to be serious, though it was bad enough to keep him out of the representative match on Monday. But now comes news that it may keep him out of football for the rest of the winter. This is cruel luck for Varsity, which had already lost the services of its skipper, A. H. Keene, and it is equally bad luck for Macintosh, who has shown himself to be a particularly fine sportsman. But the really regrettable feature is that, in the tackle in which Macintosh was hurt, unnecessary violence appeared to be use toward him after he had parted with the ball.
