DIVIDEND OF 8 PER CENT. A net profit of £5,683 19s £d is shown in the annual report and balance-sheet of Hill and Plummer, Ltd., as tangible evidence of satisfactory trading for the year ended April 30, 1928. This, with the amount brought forward from last year, makes £16,434 17s 3d available for distribution. An interim dividend at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum was paid in November, absorbing £2,271, and the directors now recommend payment of a dividend at the rate of 8 per cent, per annum for the six months ended April 30, absorbing a further £2,271. After payment of directors’ fees, etc., there will be a substantial balance to carry forward to next year. The balance-sheet shows assets amounting to £99,443, the major items including properties, £31,900; plant, etc., £1,989; stock. £33,999; debtors, £19,978; bills receivable and cash in hand, £2,055; war loan and mortgages, £9,518. Among the liabilities £56,786 represents the value of the shares allotted out of the nominal capital of £75,000. The bank overdraft amounts to £4,424; deposits at call, £15,259; bills payable and sundry creditors, £4,325; reserves, etc., £2.215. The director retiring by rotation is Mr. G. Gow, who offers himself for re-elec-tion. The company’s scrip meets with a steady demand on ’change at 22s 6d. Sellers seldom quote. The last recorded sale was made in March at 235.
