NEW REGENT
“WIFE SAVERS” TO-MORROW “Tillie’s Punctured Romance,” the comedy which has been creating laughs at the Hew Regent, will be shown to-night for the last time. Commencing to-morrow will be shown “Wife Savers,” another uproarious comedy, this time starring Wallace Beery and Raymond Hatton, the greatest comedy-team in filmdom. This will be the fifth picture made by Beery and Hatton together, and like many of its predecessors, the film shows the two in uniform, although most of the action takes place after the armistice is signed. In the old days back home in Brooklyn, Beery is a head-waiter in a restaurant, and Hatton is one of his awed assistants. The war puts their positions in reverse, and Hatton is a cocky lieutenant, and Beery is a lowly kitchen mechanic. Hatton, being quite a man among the girls, annexes a village belle named Colette, and the best that Beery can do is the town husband-seeker.
Hatton is called away to another town and he leaves his Colette with Beery and in order to safeguard her properly he (Beery) marries her. Complications arise and the fun begins. With a background of the F.rancoSwiss border, and the most picturesque portion of the Alps, Beery and Hatton enact some really delightful scenes, particularly when Wallace Beery tries to become a mountain guide. “Wife Savers” is a new version of the tale of a lad who trusted his girl to his best friend. Leslie V. Harvey will again delight with his playing of the Wurlitzer organ and suitable incidental music will be provided by the Regent Operatic Orchestra under the baton of Arthur G. Frost.
