LABOUR IN HAURAKI

MR. J. A. LEE ON PLATFORM IMMIGRATION AND FINANCE Labour's election campaign iu ibe Hauraki electorate was opened last evening, when Mr. J. A. Leo, sitting member for Auckland East, and one ot the party’s principal platform speakers, addressed an audience in the Otahuhu hall. Ho was accorded a good hearing din - ing his criticism of the Reform Government’s administration, and at the conclusion the meeting expressed its thanks to him and its confidence in Labour. Mention was made of the increase in the public debt of New Zealand by £164,000,000 for the 16 years the Reform Party had been in power. -Ww Zealand was stated to be the wealthiest country in the world per head of population; and, as Mr. Lee reasoned, the cause of hardship in New Zealand, was not through shortage of wealth, but through the bad administration of the country’s affairs. It was the speaker’s opinion that there was room in New Zealand for millions of population, but until the Government assisted the primary industries in New Zealand, and until those industries could give full employment to the workers, the Labour Party claimed that the Government had no right to bring in more immigrants. In dealing with the Liberal Party, Mr. Lee stated that they wen* not worth powder and shot, and only a passing reference could be made to them. They are popping up all over the country under various aliases. A motion of thanks to Mr. L ••• and confidence in the Labour Party, was carried. Mr. R. B. Todd, Mayor of Otahuhu. presided-
