GIRL GUIDES’ CORNER

The new St. George’s Company of Girl Guides, recently formed at Kingsland, has a membership of 20 girls, and an enrolment ceremony will be held on June 7 in St. George’s Hall, where the meetings are now being held. The company has a keen captain in Miss E. Simmons and Miss M. Wilson has been appointed lieutenant. Sighing Foam, of the New Lynn Company, writes: “We had our first experience of a leaders’ gathering at St. George’s Hall, Kingsland, where we were invited to meet the other leaders of the Eden district. We had tea there and then played games. Afterwards our Commissioner, Miss Knight, joined us and we exchanged ideas about patrol corners and company work in general. “On May 13 our Union Jack was dedicated at St. Andrew’s Church, New Lynn, and the Avondale Boy Scouts turned out to join in the parade. “The annual church parade was a great joy to those who were able to attend.” Driven Snow, of the Morrinsville Company, forwards the following notes:— “The eagerly-awaited Rally exceeded even our expectations, and no Guide who attended is likely to forget the wider sense of Guiding which the presence of so many strange, yet friendly, sister Guides gave her. Above all we wish to thank the Frankton Company and those Frankton people who so kindly gave us accommodation and gave up their time and pleasure for our entertainment. “During the month the company has gained three new recruits, while two girls have passed the Tenderfoot tests and been enrolled as Guides. “Patrol Leader Rita Pickett has won her First Class badge and qualified for her All Round Cords. There are now three First Class Guides in the company and several who have passed part of the tests.” Dancing Star, of the First Takapuna Company, reports: “Four girls were enrolled on May 4 and badges were presented to those who had won them by Mrs. Williamson, the chairman of our committee.
