CARDS IN OPEN AIR

YOUTHS’ SABBATH PLAY EUCHRE IN VICTORIA PARK NOT ALLOWED BY LAW People who prefer to play their card games in the open air, must not do so in public parks on Sundays. Three young euchre fanciers acquired this knowledge at the Police Court to-day. They were Victor Silver, William Basham and Harold Smith. A constable said that on the morning cf Sunday, April 29, he saw the accused playing euchre in Victoria Park. They were in the children’s shelter at the time, and passers-by could see them. “This is not the first case,” said Senior-Sergeant Cummings, “and if they don't stop, we'll charge them under the Gaming Act.” “That’s right," said the magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, “the playing of cards on Sunday offends a great many people.” Each of the accused was fined 10s.
