Bahadur led on the hill from Lord Bruce, Star of the East, Lady Cintra, San Fera, Kamehameha and Brigadier Bill. Over the stand double Bahadur and Lord Bruce were almost together ahead of Lady Cintra, Star of the East, Clockwork, Brigadier Bill and Kamehameha, with a gap back to San Fera. Lady Cintra had a life at the stonewall, Mcßae making a wonderful reco\ ery Along the back Brigadier Bill flew very high at a hurdle and crashed, going well at the time, and Stir of the East, who looked like taking part in the finish, fell at the first fence on the hill. Here Lady Cintra was in charge a length in front of Bahadur and Kamehameha, with Clockwork ten lengths back. Lady Cintra was a couple of lengths in front, of Kamehameha coming to the final fence, with 3ahadur right up, and the leader went n to score comfortably by three lengths • r °ro Kamehameha, with Bahadur five .engths back. The leader weakened half-way down ;he straight, where Corinax shot out to win nicely by a length and a-half from Stormy, with Thursby, who finished well, three-quar-ters of a length off third. Then came Te Koroke. Sir Archie, King Lu, Mervette and Cynthia N. The winner, who has shown consistent form this season, was allowed to pay a dividend in the vicinity of a score.
WINTER STEEPLECHASE Of £1,250; 3 miles 1— GLENDOWIE (H. Rothery), br g, by Lucullus—Salvadan, syrs, S. Henderson, 10.7 l 8— KAWINI (H. A. Swaffield), br g, by Formative—Miss Winnie, aged, R. Rhodes, St. Heliers. Won by two and a-half lengths; one length between second and third. Time, *5.3 3-5. Glendowie Again Glendowie won the Winter Steeplechase in approved style after allowing Beau Cavalier and then Kawini to make the running. TJie win was again very popular. Beau Cavalier at once went to the front and led over the first jump from Wiltshire and Llewellyn. When the back stretch was reached there was no alteration among the leading division but Maunga fell at the hurdle opposite the stands. Beau Cavalier went up the hill three lengths in advance of Wiltshire, who was ten lengths clear of Comical, after whom came Pouri, Llewellyn, Tuki and Wedding March. When the double was reached Beau Cavalier, Wiltshire and Comical were still the leading division, while Kawini and Glendowie had improved their position and Tuki was making a forward move. The leaders were not jumping too cleverly at this stage, and the obstacle going out of the straight saw the three front horses blunder. Wiltshire displaced Beau Cavalier at the head of affairs, with Comical, Kawini and Glendowie following, but Kawini went to the front along the back anil led the top-weight up the hill, with Wiltshire and Glendowie in close attendance. Beau Cavalier fell at the first jump on the hill and Kawini led by ten lengths from Wiltshire, Glendowie and Wedding
March. Kawini, Wedding March and Glendowie was the order over the final obstacle, and the latter, putting in a fine run, got up to win by two and ahalf lengths from Kawini with Wedding March a length away third. Then at intervals came Wiltshire, Comical, Pouri and Tuki. CAMPBELL HURDLES Of £600; 2 miles. 3 PENEUS (C. F. Vallance), br g, by Boniform—Blue Lake, aged, McDonald, 9.9 1 4 GLEN CANNY (W. J. Smith), br g, by Pistol—Bridge of Roses, aged, A. McGregor, 9.0 2 Also started: — 1— Aberfeldy, S. Henderson, 10.11 (fell) 0 2 Mia Bella. Mcßae, 10.4 (fell) .. 0 (Winner trained by Miss G. Maher, Hastings.) Won by 300yds. Time, 3.56 2-5. McGregor’s Gameness As a race the Campbell Hurdles proved a fiasco, the two favourites, Aberfeldy and Mia Bella, falling a.t the initial jump. Peneus went out in front, followed by Glen Canny, who fell at the second to last hurdle. A. McGregor remounted the gelding, and set out to gain second berth, but his mount again toppled, the final obstacle proving his downfall. McGregor gamely rose and, catching the horse, rode on to the accompaniment of loud applause, to secure second honours. Peneus won by 300yds.
Late Turf Results will be found in the Stop Press column as they come to hand.
