WOMAN WRITES TO JUDGE

WORD FOR_A WITNESS “HIGHLY IMPROPER ACT” How a woman wrote to a Judge in extenuation of the evidence * given a week ago by a witness in a divorce action, was revealed this morning in the Supreme Court. The particular case was continued after a week’s adjournment, and at the conclusion of the evidence given by a friend of the co-respondent, his Honour, Mr. Justice Blair, handed witness a letter asking him if he could identify a signature. “It is the signature of my wife,” said witness. His Honour said it was a. letter addressed to him requesting that allowances be made for a certain witness. Enclosed in the letter was a sealed envelope, “containing a man’s name, which I have not opened,” said his Honour.

The husband of the writer denied all knowledge of his wife’s communication, as did counsel for the wife in the case.

“That may be so,” remarked his Honour, “but it is highly improper. If people attempt to interfere with the course of justice some severe action must be taken. The letter does not influence me in the least degree.”
