PROFESSOR NGRDENSKIOLD FATAL MOTOR ACCIDENT (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) COPENHAGEN, Sunday. The death lias occurred of Professor Otto Nordenskiold, the former Antarctic explorer, as the result of injuries sustained in a motor accident. Professor Ofto Xordenskiold was born in December, 1869, in Sweden. He studied at Upsala, where in 1894 he was appointed lecturer on mineralogy and geolog v. In 1905 he became professor of geography and ethnography at Gothenburg University. His lectures between 1915 and 1923 to those taking courses in commercial science led in the latter vear to the establishment of the Coin- • nt-rcial College. ( »f which he became rector and professor of geography. In 1895-7 he Jed a Swedish expedition to the far south of South America. In ISMS lie undertook another expedition to Northern Canada, and in 1900 led a Danish party which explored Eastern Greenland Hut his most .important work in this direction was the Swedish South Tolar expedition of 1901-3, which, thanks to its scientific discoveries in a region then practically unknown and its thrilling adventures, excited great interest. In UK)*.* he visited South-west Greenland, partly to examine the ice conditions and partly to study the people, afterwards issuing an account of his investigations. His last expedition was one to the western part of South America, which he made in 1920-1.
