a. preliminary report dealing with cost of proceeding with a Waitaitere water supply scheme was submitted by the engineer, Mr. Powell.. The chairman, Mr. E. Aldridge, said that the board was being guided by »mert advice, and had not acted hastily or precipitated any action. Nevertheless it had gone steadily on its way providing for all requirements. However further complications had arisen through tho rating problem in the watershed area, and the time had arisen when some policy should be formulated. He thought at the present time it would not be advisable to proreed with the major scheme. If anything were done at all, it should only be in the direction of making preliminary investigations. jj r A. E. Greenslade concurred with the chairman. At the present stage he hid not think there was any need for further action in regard to the major scheme. He thought the board's principal concern should be the* maintaining of a pure supply. Mr. J. W. Williamson said that at some future date the board undoubtedly would have to go further afield, but he did not consider it would be advisable to do so at present. It was decided that the question of preliminary investigations be deferred for another three months.
