TWO YEARS’ DETENTION (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, To-day. Matthew Peters, a native aged 28 years, was charged in the Police Court i to-day with various thefts from the store of Sydney H. Miller at Whangaruru, amounting to £42 Ss 4d. The police evidence showed that Peters had been employed at the store and obtained keys, which he used to enter the store and open the draw r er where the cash was kept. Accused pleaded guilty, but he answered so foolishly that the magistrate remarked that apparently he was not normal, otherwise the sentence would have been hard labour. As it was lie ordered two years’ reformative detention.
