POLLUTING THE WATER
BATHING IN LAKE PUPUKE PRACTICE TO BE STOPPED Bathing in Lake Pupuke, from which the North Shore district draws its water supply, is not to be encouraged. At to-day’s meeting of the North Shore Water Board, it was reported that on May 11 five people had been seen bathing in the lake. The chairman, Mr. E. Aldridge, said it was absolutely essential that such a thing should be prohibited. Under the new by-laws recently gazetted, the board had power to proceed against offenders, and certainly would do so. ENGINEER’S ACCOUNT Discusing the proposed the chairman said he had thought that now it had been decided not to proceed with a supply scheme the levy could be either dispensed with or reduced, but unfortunatel the engineer had just informed him that the hoard owed him approximately £ 1.000 for work done, and for which an account had not been rendered. This would make a levy necessary. The engineer was asked to submit his account.
