TAXI-DRIVER MAY NOT DRIVE FOR SIX MONTHS
FINED TEN POUNDS INTOXICATED IN CAR William Malcolmson, a taxidriver, aged 27, has been forced to change his employment for the time being. His driving licence was cancelled at the Police Court to-day. Malcolmson pleaded guilty to a charge of being intoxicated while in control of a motor-car in Symonds Street on Saturday evening. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that accused, who was a taxi-driver, had gone without food on Saturday, and had been affected by the gins he had drunk. His car had collided with a centre pole and when the police arrived it was found that Malcolmson was under tli.e influence of drink. Dr. Eisdell Moore, who saw the accident, said that accused had used his phone, and witness detected no signs of liquor. “Of course, I did not make an examination,” added witness, “for I did not know that this charge would be brought.” The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt: These are serious charges, you know. “I realise that,” replied Dr. Moore, “so I came to speak for this man.” Malcolmson was fined £lO, and his driving licence was cancelled for six months.
