PAPATOETOE FIRE BRIGADE

PURCHASE OF MOTOR-ENGINE Negotiations between the fire committee of the Papatoetoe Town Board

and the Auckland City Council, for the purchase of the fire-engine until recently used by the Avondale Fire Brigade, were finalised yesterday. The engine has only done 6QO miles, and is in first-class order, and shows a saving to the ratepayers of nearly £I,OOO on the engine which it was originally proposed to purchase. Pending the reticulation of the district with a water supply, it -will be necessary to instal a first-aid equipment, to enable the brigade to cope with outbreaks of fire in the meantime.
