Brassey, of India, has returned to Auckland from a fishing trip in the Taupo district, and is at the Grand Hotel. He leaves for Vancouver by the Aorangi on Tuesday oil his way to En gland. Captain J. J- Toomer, for four years divisional officer of tho Salvation Army in Auckland, who has been appointed secretary of the Children’s Aid Department in Wellington, will take up his duties on July 12. Smith, Rotorua, are among recent arrivals at “Fernleigh,” Symonds Street. Lieutenant G. O. Gladstone, R.N., who visited New Zealand in 1924 in H.AI.S. Hood, and who is at present stationed in H.M.S. Vernon, will join the Diomede in England. He will be in New Zealand for three years. Sir Robert Stout has been appointed to fill the vacancy on the board of directors of the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society, Ltd., caused by the death of the late Air. J. B. Harcourt. Sir Robert, who had previously occupied the position of chairman of the board in Wellington, resigned when he was appointed Chief Justice.
