GENERAL NOTES
N.Z. SUSSEX CLUB The second annual meeting or the above club was held in Stratford during the week. The annual report stated that the past season had been a successful one in every way, while the club’s show at Stratford had been a record from the point of the number and the quality of the entries. By the activities of the New Zealand Sussex Club and by the sheer merits of the Sussex fowl, the breed was fast attracting the attention ol’ poultrymen in New Zealand, with the result that a large number of new
members had joined during the past season.
This year the Sussex Club show was being held In conjunction with the Christchurch poultry show, and the North Island championship for this breed had been allotted to the Auckland Poultry Club’s fixture. From reports to hand both the club show, where the English Sussex Club’s medals and the Dominion Club’s cups are to be competed for, and the Auckland show, where the championship and two specials are allotted to Sussex, promise to be very successful in bringing this charming variety of British fowl into greater prominence.
We have received a copy of the Taranaki A. and P. Association’s schedule for its 192 S poultry show. This club caters well for all sections of the fancy, and quite a host of challenge cups and trophies will be competed for. The stewards are all keen fanciers aud the judging is in the capable hands of Mr. Will Hall (Lepper-
ton) and Mr. E. James (New Plymouth), so that it needs only the support of fanciers to assure the show’s being a success. A general meeting of the Auckland Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Club was held during the week at the Y.M.C.A. Mr. Geo. H. Ambler presided over a good attendanec of members.
The secretary reported that arrangements for the show were well In hand. Penning committees for the various sections were appointed and a list of specials was drawn for different classes, members being specially requested to use every effort to obtain further promises of special prizes for the remainder of the classes. It was reported that two trophies in the fancy classes had been won outright, and it was decided to ask the donors if they would replace them.
Several remits to the annual meeting of the North Island Association were drawn up and a club’s delegate was instructed to support them. After some discussion, it was agreed to allocate two four-guinea club cups, one for Old English Game fowl and one for Mediterranean breeds.
Prom reports to hand entries in open classes of Leghorns will be the strongest seen In Auckland for some time, and competition for the Leghorn Club’s trophies and specials will be very keen.
