WINTER HOME COMFORTS
ADVANTAGES OF GAS FIRES Merely having restful well-furnished rooms is not all that is required to make homes comfortable during dreary winter months. Cheerful, glowing fires to provide warmth when and where it is required are the first essentials. The modern gas fire provides one of the most convenient and satisfactory methods of warming a room. By turning on the tap and striking a match practically instantaneous warmth is provided, without any of the arduous preparation associated with other methods of heating. Moreover, a gas fire rarely needs to be kept burning full on. A few moments after lighting, when the room becomes comfortably warm, the gas can be regulated to give just the amount of heat necessary to maintain an even temperature, while retaining its bright, cheerful glow. One of the great advantages of the gas fire, from the point of view of economy is that when you go out you turn the gas out, and thus avoid waste of fuel. In these days of lab-our-saving household appliances th§ gas fire is well to the fore. It requires no preliminary preparing, and makes no dust and ashes to be cleaned up in the morning. As regards hygiene, the modern gas fire has outstanding advantages. Its warmth Is similar to the warmth of the sun. radiant and invigorating. It warms the people and the objects in the room without heating and vitiating the air. While it warms the gas fire also aids ventilation providing a gentle current of fresh air through the flue without creating any chill draught.
