LICENCES CONSIDERED ONE APPLICATION DEFERRH) A meeting of the Waitemata Licea% ing Committee was held at Devonpcrt yesterday, attended by Messrs. E. C, Cutten. S.M.. F. Mason, J. Pascoe and F. Grimwade. The licences of the Esplanade (H. M. Rider), Mon Desir Hotel Hawes), and Northcote Hotel (E. L Davey) were renewed, but the apf»* cation of the Masonic Hotel (A Beggs). Devonport, was adversely criticised vf the police. • . The chairman said the commnMJ was inclined to take a serious view of the complaints about the conduct « this hotel; the police report snowea several convictions against Mr. Begps, including one recently when he baa been fined £2O for having whisky w * wronglv labelled bottle. The tee had previously warned the licensee of this hotel. Mr Beggs denied having been previously warned. .
