CHARLIE IN “THE CIRCUS” Charlie Chaplin’s only comedy in two years, “The Circus.” is now being shown at the Capitol and Edendale Theatres. In this production Chaplin displays all his characteristics of old —the worn, t ——the twirling cane, the hug© shoes in which he is forced to shuffle along, and the expressive moustache. In this circus story, Chaplin plays the part of an unfortunate who is out of work and unknowingly becomes the accomplice of a pickpocket. Ho escapes .. arrest by his ini/hariie Chaplin genuity and obtains work as handy man in a circus, where ho falls in love with the owner’s daughter. A new performer in the person ot' a handsome young man joins the company. The girl falls in love with him, not knowing of Charlie’s deep affection for her. Charlie’s ability to do almost anything in the troupe results in his being pressed into service when the wire-walker fails to appear for a performance. He is the sensation of the show, although he does not know it. The girl makes this fact known to him and his demand for big wages is gratified. Thomas Meighan is the star in the second feature, “The City Gone Wild,” a melodrama of the underworld.
“ray As You Enter," which is being produced by Warner Brothers, is ix comedy drama featuring Louise Fazenda and Clyde Cook. William Demurest and Myrna Loy also play important roles in the cast. Master Pictures will release.
